dennis: tell me atrihos pithikos what are you writing at the moment?
atrihos pithikos: ow, I'm trying to create a book concerning a love story in Ioannina during the time of Ali Pasas. It's really intriguing. But I have problems with the historical aspect of my novel.
atrihos pithikos: ow, I'm trying to create a book concerning a love story in Ioannina during the time of Ali Pasas. It's really intriguing. But I have problems with the historical aspect of my novel.
dennis: oh, really? I thought that you were going to compose an article about the new Mogwai album, Hardoce Will Never Die But You Will. We've read so many articles from you nowadays about all kinds of albums but no Mogwai! I thought they were your favorite group!
atrihos pithikos: You're right there, they are my favourite band but I'm not ready yet to think something on that album. It confuses me.
dennis: how so?
atrihos pithikos: You see, when I say it confuses me, I mean it. I just don't know what to make of it.
dennis: I see. Okay then, tell us about your new book instead.
atrihos pithikos: It's the story of love between two Greek women who are possessed by the same passion for Ali, the Pasas of Ioannina at the time. There's a beautiful lake, a small island, greek traitors, the revolution and a lot of rakí. I think it's gonna be a treat for all the family -except the little children of course.
dennis: Mm, interesting. So, back to Mogwai then. What's the confusing part of the album you mentioned earlier?
atrihos pithikos: Oh, god, do we really have to do this now? I mean, I love them, man, but I really don't know what to make of it!
dennis: Yeah..., sorry but talking about your efing love story is not an option. First of all, it sounds really boring, and second, you need to say something about mogwai. That's reason I'm speaking to you, remember?
atrihos pithikos: God, you're such a prat! I have a career you know, I just don't sit on my ass and listen to Mogwai all the time!
dennis: Yes, you do!
atrihos pithikos: Yeah, right! I stopped after the first listening, you know, 'cause I didn't really like the album but then fantasmenios wrote something good about it and I decided to listen to it again and now I can't stop!
dennis: And why is that? Maybe because you hate hating them?
atrihos pithikos: Oh please shut up! You know as well as I that The Hawk Is Howling was no Mogwai album and I hated it. But there's something weird going on with Hardcore... and I can't say what it is. Firstly, the album starts with this cheesy postrockish track that could come from a group JBuddha only likes...
dennis: You mean White Noise. Beware, though, JBuddha'll reading this!
atrihos pithikos: I think he knows by now. Anyhow, if you manage to get through White Noise, there are some mogwai-like diamonds -the mechanic beat oriented Mexican Grand Prix, the slow moving, never-blown-off Death Ray, San Pedro is kind of old skool mogwai, I like the bass and the guitar distortion on George Square Thatcher Death Party and of course there's You're Lionel Richie, great title, amazing song!
dennis: So, you liked the album after all. You described two thirds of the tracks there!
atrihos pithikos: Well, I don't know. Stuart is 34 years old already, Mogwai can't have that youthful energy anymore, I suppose, and it seems as though they're trying to do something more here.
dennis: Mogwai are changing then but do we like that?
atrihos pithikos: It's like... hmm... how can I say it? ...Well, it's like Mogwai are saying "Forget post rock, we're Mogwai!". Or "Mogwai will never die but post rock already did", I don't know. After all this, I must admit I kind of like this album.
dennis: That's it then?
atrihos pithikos: Yep.
dennis: So, are we going for a pint of brew later?
atrihos pithikos: Why not?
